As many of you are aware, there is a governmental review of Maternity services happening right now. To see what’s being proposed, and to have your say by making a personal submission, go to maternity services review.
There will be a candlelight vigil being held on the steps of Parliament House, to draw attention to this review and you are invited to join us in a peaceful demonstration of unity in our hope for some positive change in the Maternity system for women across Australia.
Please join us at 7pm on Monday the 20th October on the steps of Parliament house, Adelaide.
Bring a candle and a banner if you like. Some ideas for slogans would be
- 1:1 midwifery care for all women
- Every woman’s right – her OWN midwife
- Bring our Maternity services into the 21st Century
- Provider numbers for Midwives
- A Midwife for every woman
- or feel free to make one up for yourself
Please think about coming along to support the submissions that have been and will be submitted by our consumer groups and local midwives alike. This is not a protest, it is a gathering to draw attention to the importance of this review, and we are hoping to get media coverage so the more people there the better!

I wonder what you have to do to get an invite to the “invitation only” Roundtable Forum on “Alternate and Midwife-led Models of Care”?
Also I couldn’t help but notice that the goal is to have women “feel” that they are in control of their birth experience. Wouldn’t it be nice if they actually “were” as well? But then I suppose that is what homebirth is for.
Well at least fathers got mentioned once, in the first sentence.

Grant, I wrote to the review on behalf of the independents of SA to request a place for us but got a standard reply. I tried for a second time as I wanted to loby the invited groups. They are a secret!!!
Thanks for trying, twice, Lisa.
I have just emailed the following:

"Invite TOR for Roundtable Forums
Maternity Services Review team
Hi,
I am interested to know what the Terms Of Reference are for deciding who to invite to the invitation only roundtable forums? Specifically what is the basis on which these invites will be made, including the "Alternate and Midwife-led Models of Care" forum & any others that may include consideration of homebirth?
Will this information be made publicly available prior to the forums or only included as part of the website summary report for each of these forums?
Thanks
Grant Horsfall …."
