The world of homebirth in Australia is waiting with baited breath for the release of the Quality and Safety Framework from the government. It has gone already to the important players for pre reading and then will be public, apparently next week. This is an interesting way to go about serving the public who are directly affected. Using secrecy, ego and intrigue from government and major stake holders alike to keep the public in the dark until the 11th hour.
Midwives (who have to have insurance after July) are waiting to see what they have to do to be able to register for the exemption for homebirth that is being offered for those who are eligible. Midwives are hoping for a status quo. It may well happen although negotiating through the layers for women having a VBAC or Breech etc at home will be a bureaucratic nightmare..
If at all possible most midwives will jump through the hoops to continue on the register, rendering it almost impossible, even with a right of refusal, for her to support the women who don’t want to collaborate with the hospital, or put in place a plan for transfer that includes more than calling an ambulance and ringing the hospital in advance of arriving.
Whatever happens the AMA aren’t going to be pleased, I heard Andrew Lavender on the radio this afternoon complaining that the government backed health reforms without checking with him first. Naughty Naughty!!
In round up we need:-
- The medicare document (that nobody will be able to access)
- The quality and safety framework,(so we can jump through hoops)
- The insurance (although if we can all access insurance not linked to the government then we can by pass those shitty restrictions)
- The eligibility criteria.
I have drummed my fingers to the bone waiting, waiting and more waiting.

I have to keep this brief because the dawn of my new blog is here and the boffin working on it wants me not to post. I have some interesting stuff on breech and lots of opinion lined up. I have given him a deadline but you know what these geeks are like.

Waiting not very patiently here.
I don’t know if I have any hope left.
As for Andrew Lavender, boo fucking hoo, it’s not your uterus, health, safety and well being on the line.
